Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal known as the West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never heard of it often confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." Once I outgrew male partners at that point, I gave up. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her to take the next step. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
